Volunteer in your Wokingham library!

Anyone wanting to give something back to the Wokingham community now has the perfect chance – October 28 is Make a Difference Day!

Make a Difference Day is a national event, organised by the national volunteering body Community Service Volunteers. The campaign is running from October 21 to November 4, and aims to get as many people as possible involved in volunteering activities.

To celebrate this event, Wokingham District Council’s cultural services team is highlighting how just a few hours of time can make a real difference, not just to the community but also to the volunteer as an individual. Volunteering is a great opportunity to:

* Meet new people

* Give something back to the community

* Develop yourself and learn new skills

* Find out more about the Wokingham local area

* Gain experience for a CV

* Have fun!

Wokingham District Council’s cultural services team offers a range of volunteering opportunities to suit a variety of interests. People can help by:

* Delivering library books to homebound residents who can’t visit the library themselves

* Reading stories and rhymes at children’s storytime sessions in our libraries

* Making and repairing costumes at the Berkshire costume service

* Helping out at one of our Wokingham library IT taster sessions

* Lending a hand at our VIP book club for visually impaired readers

* Putting together Bookstart bags for children within the district

Volunteering is a chance to make a difference and we welcome volunteers from across the community. No previous volunteering experience is required, full training and support is given and volunteer expenses are paid. For more information about how to make a difference, contact Claire Tuckett, Wokingham volunteer service co-ordinator, on (0118) 973 7163.
