Cantley House Hotel presents an evening of arias and ensembles from HMS Pinafore, The Yeomen of the Guard, The Gondoliers, The Mikado and other Gilbert and Sullivan favourites to be performed with piano accompaniment on Sunday July 17th 2005.

Conducted by Tom Higgins the soloists will be Fiona O'Neill (ENO, Dublin Opera), Linda Hibberd (ENO, Scottish Opera), Barry Clarke (Car Rosa) and Simon Butteriss (D'Oyly Carte and Carl Rosa), the chorus will be assembled from leading local societies.

The profits from the concert will be donated to Wokingham Hospital and other local charities.

The gardens will be open from 5:00pm for those who wish to bring a picnic (there will not be a long interval). Supper will be also be served in Milton’s Restaurant however booking is essential. Picnic hampers are also available by prior arrangement. For reservations please contact Julie Carey on 01189 895108.

Tickets are priced at £20 (or £12 for under 14 year olds and senior citizens) and each one includes a glass of bubbly on arrival.

Try cracking codes, using ciphers and sending secret messages at our Codes & Comms event.

Discover secrets in encrypted communications. There are games to play, activities to do, things to make and fun for the family at the REME Museum of Technology's 'Codes & Comms' Family Half-Term Activity Days:

  Wednesday 1 June to Friday 3 June, between 11.00 am and 3.30 pm .

Activities include sending messages using Semaphore, Morse Code and the International Flag Code. Children can try cracking Nazi Ciphers, Pigpen Ciphers and using real Army Field Telephones. Learn how to march and salute with Sgt White! Assault the Mini Assault Course with ‘Sir' and his team! Brave the Big Bug Hunt in the Prince Philip Vehicle Hall! Other activities include M aking and using Secret Code Rings and Code Snakes, building the tallest Radio Mast using straws, Shadow Puppets, Braille, making Simple Telephones, Giant Jenga, Spot the Odd One Out, a military vehicle display and lots more.

REME Museum of Technology ~ ‘Soldier’s Workshop’ - Make It ‘n’ Take It Club

Discover what it’s like to be a soldier at the REME Museum of Technology’s ‘Soldier’s Workshop’ on Sunday 15 May at 10.30 am - 12.30 pm or 1 - 3 pm.

Try on a real soldier’s uniform, create crazy camouflage, camouflage a real soldier’s helmet and your face, design a new soldiers hat for REME, move silently behind enemy lines using the ‘Ghost Walk’ and ‘Leopard Crawl’, design a ‘Ration Pack’ for a soldier, explore real Army rations then join in a quiz to find rations hidden in the Museum.

The ‘Soldier’s Workshop’ is the second MINTI Club Sunday Workshop this year. Every child attending a MINTI Club workshop gets a MINTI Club Reward Card. We’ll stamp your Reward Card at each workshop: collect 3 stamps for a MINTI Club certificate, collect 6 stamps and you’ve won a reward!

Places are limited and booking is essential. Admission to Workshop: child £6, adults free (all children must be accompanied by an adult, younger children will need parental assistance with the activities). Activities suitable for 5 – 12 year olds.
